The Reel Cartoonist: A New YouTube Channel from Isle of Wight Caricatures

If you've met me drawing at The Needles Landmark Attraction or at a wedding, you'll know I love capturing a person's character in a caricature. Now I'm doing the same with the films, music and books I love.

What is The Reel Cartoonist?

The Reel Cartoonist is my new YouTube channel about classic films, books and music. Each episode ends with a hand-drawn caricature of someone involved, whether that's an actor, director, author or musician. You get the conversation about the work, then watch the drawing come to life.

Episode 1: The Long Good Friday

I'm starting with a British classic, The Long Good Friday. The episode looks at the film (I'm watching the 4K Ultra HD release), its atmospheric soundtrack by Francis Monkman (I've got it on vinyl), and finishes with a caricature of the brilliant Bob Hoskins.

Why a caricaturist is making film videos

Caricature is about spotting what makes someone distinctive, and that's what draws me to great performances and memorable characters. The channel lets me combine my two passions.
